Friday 14th July 1972

Charlotte Chapel

Paul and I went into see how Al was doing. We’ve been planning our camping trip all week and Fifi (Fiona Blades) has made arrangements with the church to get a loan of one of their tents. It’s quite a large one as it will have to hold five of us in it.

We’re going to Stobo in Peebleshire tomorrow afternoon. It’s dead exciting and it’s been fun making all the arrangements. Also the weather’s been pretty good so everything’s set fair. We also looked down to Porty to Nana and Gaga’s and have got a loan of Aunt Heather’s sleeping bag.

Late on there was some really good, different Friday evening viewing; it was a Grandstand Special of the first day of the AAAs Championships leading up to the Olympic Games in Munich next month. The 5000 metres was quite incredible with Dave Bedford winning in a new European record and half a second outside Clarke’s world record. Ian Stewart and Ian McCafferty both qualified for the Olympic team too. McCafferty’s time was the third best ever; if he only had a wee bit more confidence I think he could be the best in the world.
