Because I had athletics on today I didn’t do the milk run with
Douglas.
After spending a good part of the day at Meadowbank I came home to
watch a really interesting programme on the telly. It’s called Grand Strategy -
it’s the sixth part of the series on how the politicians and generals plan for
war. Tonight was all about how the American president said the allied forces
needed to be fighting the Germans to take the pressure off the Russians; it was
all about Montgomery at El Alamein; Normandy; the Battle of the Atlantic;
Stalingrad etc. - really fascinating stuff and unexpectedly good. It’s not
something I might have chosen to watch but it was just excellent. I’m off to
bed now.
