I was pretty tired this morning so stayed in bed until quite late. Paul; Iain; Boo-Boo and I went for a long cycle ride with us ending up seven miles away down at Nana’s at Durham Road Portobello. Colin Hanlon cycled part of the way with us but turned back about half way through. Probably a wise decision given how far we’d come.

Tea at Nana's, 45 Durham Road Portobello

Nana put on a fantastic tea for us all before we cycled back to Oxgangs. Although it’s a long way back with uphill gradients it’s a pretty nice route through Arthurs Seat; the Grange; Churchill; Morningside and Greenbank. We just go at our own pace and stop when we feel like it. Great fun being out in a group cycling. A great way to spend the day. We didn’t get back home until later in the evening.

At 10.15pm as part of getting us in the mood for the Olympics I watched the first part of ‘Olympia 1936.’ It’s a documentary film by Leni Riefenstahl all about the Berlin Olympic Games focusing on Jessie Owens the great American sprinter and Hitler. Despite it being quite arty and old wordly it was interesting to watch. A good day and way to spend the school summer holidays.
